Mr. Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, West Akim District Chief Executive (DCE), has cautioned fake micro credit scheme organizers, allegedly collecting various sums of money from unsuspecting people in the area, to desist from the practice.

He said such people were operating under the pretext of forming micro credit schemes to enhance the economic pursuits of the people.

Mr. Sintim-Aboagye gave the warning when officials of the Bawjiase Area Rural Bank (BARB) paid a courtesy call on him at his office at Asamankese.

The visit preceded the formal inauguration of the Asuokaw Nkosour Credit and Savings Association, at Akim-Asuokaw, near Asamankese, in the Eastern Region.

The DCE said if the fake organizers continued to operate they would be flushed out since they were tarnishing the image of the Government and undermining the good works of genuine micro credit project implementers.

Mr. Sintim-Aboagye, however, said the Government supported financial institutions, especially the rural and the community Banks in the implementation of the micro credit facilities to improve the standards of living of the people in the rural areas.

He said Government and donor agencies were doing all that they could to assist viable banks with adequate funds to promote micro credit schemes.

Mr. Sintim-Aboagye commended the management of the Bawjiase Area Rural Bank for introducing the schemes in the Upper West Akim District to assist farmers and traders, and pledged the assembly's support for the Bank to achieve its objectives.

He reminded members of the Asuokaw Nkosour Credit and Savings Association that the 'master key' to socio-economic success was hard work and perseverance.

Mr. Emmanuel K. Osei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, urged members of credit associations to channel loans in productive ventures to enable them repay the facility.

Nana Okorewaa I, the Chairperson of the association, appealed to the Government to support the Banks with more funds so that they could reach out to more needy but hard working traders and food growers in the district.
