Parliament has set aside the Supplementary Appropriation bill after concerns were raised that it was not inclusive of expenditures made by the Ghana at 50 Secretariat.

The appropriation law gives government the go ahead to disburse state funds.

The Minority, who raised the concerns, said it was important for the expenditure of the Secretariat to be included in the bill before it could be approved.

The Deputy Minority Leader, Mr. Edward Doe Adjaho, raised the objection after Deputy Finance Minister, Professor George Gyan Baffour, moved the motion for the adoption of the 2006 supplementary appropriation bill.

According to Mr Adjaho it would be improper to approve the bill since it did not classify the items of expenditure under the programs and activities, specifically the activities of the Ghana at 50 Secretariat.

Although the Majority attempted to justify why the bill ought to be passed, the Speaker finally set it aside after the Deputy Minister admitted that he needed more time to include the required information.

The MPs also discussed the contribution of former Prime Minister, Dr Kofi Abrefa Busia, to the country's democratic culture.

However, the focus of the discussions shifted from his impact on the country's democratic culture to his policies. The Minority argued that some of Dr Busia's policies contradicted what he preached before he assumed power.

Three bills, including the Internal Revenue Amendment bill, Ministries Retention of Funds bill and the Customs Excise and Preventive Service bill received the House’ full support when they went through the second reading.
