GSE closes week on low note

The Ghana Stock Exchange closed the week on Thursday down to earth as traded shares which rose from 1.1 million shares on Monday to 5.05 million shares on Wednesday slumped to a mere 45,100 shares.

With no trading on Friday because of a holiday to celebrate African Union Day, the GSE saw seven equities recording moves, all positive.

The GSE All-Share index, the benchmark measure of the bourse, closed up by 1.05 points from 5,172.07 from 5,171.02 points.

Total shares traded closed a mere 45,100 from 5,058,700 shares on Wednesday. CAL Bank, which recorded large sales once again sold 28,900 shares out of the 45,100 that changed hands on Friday.

Change for the year was up at 3.32 per cent from 3.30 per cent. On the broader market, there were seven price changes, all positive.

Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited rose by 29 cedis at 9,451 cedis, Stanchart gained two cedis at 180,602 cedis, Fan Milk was one cedi higher at 19,506 cedis, Ecobank Ghana Limited was up by seven cedis at 14,310 cedis, Enterprise Insurance Company inched up by one cedi at 9,501 cedis, Ghana Commercial Bank was also better by one cedi at 6,802 cedis while CAL Bank recorded one cedi gain at 2,611 cedis.

Market capitalization ended the session at 113,532.37 billion cedis from 113,526.06 billion cedis.
