Patrons of ‘Kufuor Bus’ want overloading checked

Some patrons of the Metro Mass Transit buses, popularly called Kufuor Bus, in Accra are complaining about overcrowding in the busses.

The passengers say the buses are mostly overloaded to the extent that people have to stand upright with no room for maneuvering whatsoever, making rides in the buses most uncomfortable.

They say the maximum capacity of the busses must be displayed openly to keep conductors from taking more than the specified number of passengers.

Their complaints come in the wake of threats of strike by workers of the Metro Mass Transit in Kumasi protest what they say are poor working conditions and unjustifiable treatment being meted out to them by both management and sections of commercial car operators.

More than half of the buses have been grounded in Kumasi and some workers rendered jobless.

But in Accra the dissatisfaction has come more from passengers. Both adults and some basic school children who frequently use the busses demanded that steps are taken to stop the overloading.
