Chuchuliga Community near Navrongo in the Builsa District of the Upper East Region, was on Friday presented with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment worth about 67 million Cedis.

The equipment that would help link up the area with the rest of the country and the outside world included one touch telephone services, a computer, printer, solar energy panels and internet services.

They were provided under the e-Commerce and Renewable Energy (e-CARE) Project of Ghana Telecommunication (GT).

Presenting the equipment at Chuchuliga near Navrongo, Mr. Joseph A. Abanyin, Project Manager of GT, said 52 rural communities had already been provided with the communication equipment.

He said 17 more communities would be provided with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities by the end of June this year.

Mr. Abanyin said the project would provide employment for the people and that they would also be given computer training and education on renewable energy sources.

Alhaji Ahmed Yirimeah, the Deputy Regional Minister, who commissioned the ICT equipment, commended the GT for providing ICT facilities throughout the country and for complimenting government's effort at raising the living standards in rural communities.

He advised the people of Chuchuliga to use the facility judiciously to ensure the sustenance of the project.

Alhaji Musah Awudu, the Regional Director of GT, noted that telecommunication played a major role in national development.

The e-Care project, which started in 2003, facilitates the establishment and operations of rural business centres to accelerate the extension of telecommunication and renewable energy services operated with solar energy.
