Mr Daniel Ansah-Duah, Manager of Nkoranza Kwabre Rural Bank at Akuma has lauded the smooth introduction of the new currency and commended National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for its education on the exercise.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza, Mr Ansah-Duah said the public education on the exercise was intensive and went down well with the people and business transactions had so far been orderly at the bank.

He said in order not to create congestion at the bank's operational areas, the management appointed desk officers for its agencies to handle customers who exchanged old currencies for new ones.

The bank has agencies at Donkro-Nkwanta, Nkwabeng, Techiman, Nkoranza and Tuobodom.

Mr Ansah-Duah said the only complaint of the customers about the new currency was that the five pesewas and one pesewa coins were "very small to handle".

Mr Gibrilu Osumanu, Manager of Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) in Nkoranza personally went round to educate the bank's customers about the exercise.

"By the end of the six month period, people would have understood and appreciated the idea of the central bank," he said.

Mr Osumanu urged those who still had difficulties with the new currency to seek advice from bank officials or teachers in their communities.

Miss Debora Achiaa of Sessiman in Nkoranza noted that the new notes were easier to handle.

"I received 350 Ghana Cedis, representing 3.5 million cedis, which would have been a load in my bag, but for the new currency, I only wrapped it in my handkerchief," she said.

Miss Achiaa called on teachers to educate school children about the exercise during the transition period.
