The Ghana Telecom (GT) has become assertive and more alive to its responsibilities to its customers as a result of the keen competition in the telecommunication industry, Mr. Emmanuel Dziko, GT General Manager in charge of Strategy and Business Development, has said.

This, he said was evident in the long list of telecommunication products and services rolled out for customers within the last couple of years making it a major player in the sector.

Mr. Dziko was speaking at a public forum dubbed "Time with GT" at Asankrangwa in the Wassa Amenfi district on Wednesday to enable the public particularly GT customers to learn more about the company's operations including expansion programmes and the benefits of new products.

Mr. Dziko admitted that the keen competition in the sector "has made Ghana Telecom more efficient, more innovative, more effective, more customer-focused and more market-oriented".

He said GT had taken the necessary steps to become the leader in the telecommunication business and urged customers to remain loyal.

Mr. Dziko explained the operations of some of the newly introduced products of GT including the Eazyfone, the Smart Phone, the Voice SMS among others that give customers improved efficiency and convenience.

GT had also introduced a hotline 0800-17857 tool-free for the public to give information on fraud, unauthorised tapping of phone lines, manipulation of payphones and stealing of cables.

Mr. Dziko said the identity of informers would be strictly confidential.

He appealed to the public to disabuse their minds of deceptive perceptions and allegation being peddled by some of GT opponents.

Mr. Samuel Alberto Terkyi, District Chief Executive, urged GT to expand its telephone service and also hook the district onto the Internet to enhance development.

Mr. Kwasi Kyei, GT Commercial Manager in Takoradi and other officers assisted Mr. Dziko to answer questions from the public.
