Listen to Mrs Magaret Mwanakatwe, the outgoing Barclays MB on why she is heading to Nigeria

Barclays Bank Ghana has appointed a new Managing Director who replaces Mrs Margaret Mwanakatwe.

The new MD, Benjamin Dabra, a Ghanaian who assumes office from November 1, held a top position with Standard Bank, the parent company of Stanbic and was based in Nigeria before his new appointment.

He was the Regional Credit Director in West Africa. Mr Dabra, had previously worked for Barclays for over seven years.

A news release this morning which announced the changes said the outgoing Managing Director will take up a new job with responsibility for the bank’s business development activities across West Africa.

She is expected to lead the establishment of Barclays Bank branches in Nigeria and elsewhere in the sub-region.

Rumours of her exit had been rife at Barclays bank, with suggestions that she was being pushed out. But officials of the bank insist she is only being reassigned.
