Students of the Zebilla Secondary Technical on Saturday mentioned lack of classroom furniture, science laboratory, and accommodation as the main problems hindering learning in the school.

Others, they said included restriction to use the public library and lack of streetlights.

The students who made the complaints at the Bawku West District People's Assembly, explained that many of them came from different parts of the district and had to rent rooms in Zebilla town and it was difficult to cater for themselves and at the same time go to school.

"We also face a lot of challenges in town, when there is so much noise one can hardly read nor do one's home work", they said.

They said science students had to travel to Bolgatanga to do practical work there by devoting most of a day's study time to one subject.

Mr. Moses Appiah Abaare, District Chief Executive, in reaction, told the students that the school had been chosen as one of the model schools and would be upgraded to a high standard.

Mr. Abaare said the upgrading programme that might start this year, would provide adequate accommodation for students and teachers and other facilities that the school lacks.

He said the Assembly had facilitated the posting of trained teachers to various schools in the district and was sponsoring 60 more teacher trainees who would also serve the district.

Madam Juliana Atugba, a primary school teacher, complained of lack of furniture and over-crowding in the classrooms, saying she had 130 pupils in class one and two.

The People's Assembly is organized every year at the district level to provide a forum for the people to interact with their District Chief Executive and other Government Officials, to ask questions on issues that need clarification and share ideas of common interest.
