Mr Francis Korwu, Ho Municipal Director of Education, on Tuesday said the Directorate has resolved to regularly motivate teachers to enable them to discharge their duties to meet national goals.

He said the motivation was to ensure that education delivery was done properly so that the area would have the best performing institutions in the country.

Mr Korwu made these remarks at the Municipal’s 2004/2005 Best Teacher, Worker and Pupil award ceremony in Ho.

It was on the theme: " Quality Education: Our Collective Responsibility".

Mr Korwu observed that the municipality's 2006 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) was the best in the region recording 60.24 percent, and that there was more room for improvement.

He said the Directorate had targeted 80 percent for this year and called on all stakeholders in the municipality to work towards its achievement.

Mr Korwu announced that the Directorate had proposed a common Mock BECE Exam for all Junior Secondary Schools in the Municipality between February and March this year.

He said the idea was to give an opportunity to all registered candidates to have a feel of the real exams.

Mr Korwu said two major "common" examinations were also being considered for all the classes in the schools, to enable them rate the performance level of all schools in the Municipality.

He commended the work of School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parents Teachers Association for their efforts at developing the schools and asked communities to adopt some of the schools.

Mr Kwesi Hobenu, Volta Regional Director of Education in a speech read for him congratulated the award winners for having the patience to wait for three years before receiving the awards.

He urged them to continue working hard to win more laurels for themselves and for the region.

Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive reiterated government's commitment to ensuring quality education through the introduction of various interventions including the Capitation Grant.

He called on communities to complement government’s effort by providing accommodation to teachers posted to remote areas.

Mr Goh commended the award winners and urged the teachers to aspire to be good moral mentors as well.

A total of 36 primary, junior and senior secondary school teachers were awarded.

The awards include table top refrigerators, Television sets, ghetto blasters and certificates.
