Mr. Kwame Twumasi Awuah, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), on Tuesday advised national service personnel to remain in the country after their service and contribute to national development.

He said instead of travelling abroad to seek so-called greener pastures they should rather stay, since there are more job avenues in the country now.

He was addressing about 300 national service personnel posted to the Municipality during an orientation programme organized by the National Service Secretariat (NSS).

The MCE noted that some personnel leave the country after their service with the excuse that they do not have jobs to sustain them.

Mr. Twumasi Awuah asked them to register with the National Youth Employment Scheme and also form groups to access loans at the banks to enable them to establish their own businesses.

“The nation needs your rich experience and academic qualifications to develop since no other national can develop the nation better than Ghanaians ourselves”, he said.

The MCE advised the personnel to take active part in ensuring the successful celebration of the nation’s 50th independence jubilee celebrations and also to help educate people on the need to keep the environment clean and healthy during and after the festivities.

Mr. Twumasi Awuah urged the personnel to work effectively and to conduct themselves positively at their various work places and to refrain from engaging in activities that could endanger their lives.

He gave the assurance that the Assembly had taken note of their concerns particularly on accommodation and promised that the Assembly would liaise with the NSS to find a lasting solution to their problems.

Mr. Ebenezer Asante, NSS Municipal coordinator urged the personnel to accept the challenges they would face in their various organizations and work hard to attract commendations for themselves and the scheme.

He observed that the scheme since its establishment had been of tremendous help to the nation and asked the personnel to continue with such good image, adding, the society expected much from them because they saw them as solutions to their problems.

The coordinator announced that 300 out of the total number of 1,850 personnel posted to the region were in the municipality to serve in the health, agriculture, education and private sectors.

Mr. Asante urged the personnel to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access basic health care during their stay in the Municipality.
