Mr. Anthony Aziabah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, has directed Heads of basic schools to stop the shift system since it was a waste of contact hours.

He noted that pupils played truancy and no effective teaching and learning was done.

The Municipal Director gave the order at a meeting with the Parent-Teacher Management members of the Methodist Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Bolgatanga.

He commended the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for embarking on a project in the school to solve the problems of the shift system and advised them to "keep up the spirit of self-help" to attract assistance.

He said with the Capitation Grant to enhance enrolment and provide teaching and learning materials while the parents paid sports and cultural levies with the community undertaking minor repairs of school buildings.

The Municipal Education Director warned the Heads not to use the grant for capital projects since that would be misapplication of funds.

He said parents should continue self-help projects in schools through levies after consensus at PTA meetings and permission through the Municipal Directorate of Education.
