Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Papa Owusu-Ankomah has called on students to take advantage of the various academic facilities being provided by the government to improve on their academic performance.
He said this is the only way the resources put in these facilities to enhance quality teaching and learning could be fully utilized and stakeholders also benefit to support the development of the country.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah said this when he inaugurated a 650 million-cedi six-classroom block funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for Prempeh College in Kumasi on Tuesday.
The block is the first phase of the 18-classrooms being provided for the school. The Minister said he would ensure the completion of the rest of the classrooms.
The Minister, who is on a three-day working duty in the Ashanti region, addressing the students and staff of the college, urged them to lead exemplary lives and work hard.
He said they must not pass through the school but should ensure that the aim with which the school was established passed through them by taking advantage of the period in the school to study hard to be able to take up leadership roles in society.
Papa Owusu-Ankomah told the students that the counselling and career guidance was going to be intensified in schools to enable students to have the right choice of subjects.
He observed that they have good ideas to support the development of the country and advised that they work hard to be part of the transformation process.
A student expressed concern about insecurity of students since parts of the school had not been fenced and called on the Minister to help in that direction.
The Minister later visited Afua Kobi Ampem Girls’ Secondary School at Trabuom in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district where he inspected on-going GETFund projects. The projects included a three-storey teachers’ bungalow and a dormitory block.
From there, he went to the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) and Wesley Secondary Schools, both at Bekwai in the Amansie East district to addressed the students.
