Mr. Joseph K. Onyinah, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education has urged teachers in basic schools to ensure that they do not use their profession to exploit parents.

He stressed; “professional teachers should not allow themselves to be disgraced by way of collecting monies from pupils in the name of extra classes’ fees”.

Speaking at the open-day and fund-raising ceremony of Obuasi Saint Joseph’s Basic Schools at Obuasi, Mr. Onyinah advised teachers not to toy with the teaching profession.

The open-day was organized under the theme: “promoting quality basic education-We are all involved”.

Mr Onyinah stressed the important role parents have to play in promoting quality basic education delivery.

The Municipal Director sounded a warning that parents who neglected their children’s education leading to the child’s waywardness have a question to answer from their Maker.

He called for regular collaboration between teachers and parents to enhance teaching and learning in schools.

The Ashanti Regional Manager of Catholic Educational Unit, Mr. Polycarp Assafuah, stressed that all stakeholders in education have a big role to play in producing quality education in the country.

He said the partnership between the church and the state in education should help produce morally upright youth in the country.

Mr Assafuah reminded parents of the importance of education and charged them not to invest in the acquisition of material things to the neglect of their wards education.

“Parents should be very serious and particular about the education of their children and wards”, the Regional Manager stressed.

Mr Asare Duncan, the Headmaster of the JSS section of the Schools, said both the primary and the JSS faced inadequate classroom leading to shift system at the primary level.

He appealed to the Municipal Assembly and AngloGold Ashanti to assist in the fencing of the schools.
