Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, Deputy Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat has said the presentation of fraudulent results by students for scholarship was a major problem facing the secretariat.

She said the situation was making it difficult to achieve an effective scholarship scheme for students in the country.

According to Mrs Asamoah, though a lot of students qualify to apply for the scheme, not many of them were granted due to small budgetary allocation.

She said the secretariat had about six scholarship and lectures to pursue higher studies.

Some of them included the President’s Award for the best BECE pupils, Hardship Awards for needy students and awards for the disabled.

The Deputy Registrar said the Disability Grant was only given to those in tertiary institutions and the award is given based on the level of the person’s disability as presented in a medical report.

She said because the secretariat did not have branches in all the regions those who wanted to apply had to travel all the way to Accra and also most of their correspondence was done through post which sometimes made the work of the secretariat very cumbersome.

Mrs Asamoah said poor academic performance and social misconduct were some of the reasons upon which an award could be withdrawn and appealed to the government for a bigger office for the secretariat to check the congestion.
