The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students has asked students of the Takoradi Polytechnic not to return to school until the principal is removed from office.

The Governing Council of the polytechnic has announced 3rd July for students to return to school after it was closed down last month following riotous demonstrations that brought the police and students in a face-off.

GNUPS is insisting on the removal of the Principal, Dr. Sam Obeng-Apori, whom they accuse of several acts of impropriety, before the school is re¬opened.

National coordinator of GNUPS, Eric Kotoko, told Joy News the announcement of a re-opening date is surprising because no agreement has been reached with school authorities.

He maintained that although the students did not appoint the Principal, they are important stakeholders and their concerns must be addressed.

Takoradi Polytechnic was shut down last month after students engaged in a running battle with police after announcing a boycott of exams.

Three meetings between GNUPS and the school authorities failed to resolve the impasse.
