The Volta Regional Manager of the AME Zion Educational Unit, Rev Gabriel Senanu has called for better remuneration for teachers.
That, he said was crucial for the success of the educational reform programme introduced by the government.
Rev Senanu said this at a one day seminar organised for stake holders of AME Zion schools in the Volta Region at Agbozume in the Ketu District.
He noted that one of the crucial factors that led to the failure of previous reforms was what he called “discouraging conditions of service” that teachers had endured over the years.

Rev Senanu noted that when teachers worked in frustration, hardship and hopelessness, it eventually reflected in their performance and consequently affected the total upbringing of the students.
The seminar which was attended by heads of schools, local managers, parent teacher association and school management committee chairmen was on the theme: “The New Educational Reform- the Challenges and the Role of stakeholders.
Rev Senanu also appealed to the Ghana Education Service to clearly recognize and define the role of the educational units as indispensable partners in education in the implementation of the new educational reform.
He emphasized that it would be politically unwise to negate the educational units at this stage of the country’s educational units at this stage of the country’s educational development since the government needed religious bodies and individuals for quality education delivery in the country.
At the seminar, the Headmistress f the Kedzi AME Zion Basic School, Madam Celestine Beckley, the Hedzranawo AME Zion Basic School, Rev Wisdom Semahah and the Head master of Livingstone Doe Ashinyo were honoured as the first three Best Headmasters of the Year.
