The Upper East Regional Branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has appealed to the government to provide adequate learning materials including syllabuses and textbooks to all schools before the start of the education reforms in September.
The branch also appealed to government to fast track construction of classrooms, staff houses and the provision of furniture to schools.
This was contained in a communiqué at the end of a workshop organised at Pusu-Namongo near Bolgatanga
It commended government for upgrading teacher training colleges but asked that more be done to motivate teachers and suggested to government to absorb the fees of teachers on the distance learning education programme.
The communiqué suggested that trained personnel should man external inspectorate division that would be incorporated into the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports under the reforms.
This would curtail conflicts of roles among internal school supervisors and inspectors
