Lecturers at the Tamale Polytechnic have embarked on an indefinite strike action since Monday in solidarity with five sacked colleagues.

The five were sacked for allegedly seeking sexual favours from female students of the polytechnic in exchange for good academic grades.

A committee of enquiry found the five guilty.

After persistent overtures to the Polytechnic Governing Council to reinstate the sacked lecturers, the local Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana, (POTAG) declared the strike action and said it had notified the National Labour Commission about its action.

The strike action does not affect non-tertiary level programmes.
