The Kofi Annan School Foundation Board, comprising a group of people both from Ghana and the Netherlands helping to provide education facilities to needy communities in the Central region, is collaborating with the government to establish schools in other parts of the country.

The Foundation Board has already constructed a youth training centre at Ajumako Afranse in the Central Region.

It has also started construction of a primary school project at Egyirfa, a farming community in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region.

Mr Jan Schullar, a retired trade unionist from Holland and Chairman of the Board said the collaboration would be the Foundation's contribution to education of the Ghanaian youth.

"We feel privileged to do so," Mr Schullar said in a speech read on his behalf at a durbar at Egyirfa near Yamoransa.

The durbar was in honour of a brigade of the Foundation, which arrived in Ghana from Holland to assist in the construction of the school block.

Mr Schullar said the project would save children from walking six kilometres to school.

Nana Abena Takuwah II, a Dutch development queen of the village was full of praise for Ghanaian women for their hard work.

Nana Takuwah, whose real name is Reit Schullar, a retired educationist, said she had set up a micro credit scheme for the women of the village to promote their businesses.

She commended Nana Araba Takyiwa, queen mother of the community for her support.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive commended the Foundation for supporting education in the country and pledged the assembly's cooperation to make its work a success.

He enumerated a number of interventions the government had put in place to ensure quality education for children in the country and urged Ghanaians to ensure that all children of school-going age were enrolled in school.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur called on Ghanaians to ensure that the peace the nation was enjoying was not disturbed on the alter of political or chieftaincy expediency.

Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress for Mfantseman West, commended the people for placing premium on education, which was the key to development.
