Information gathered indicates that Metropolitan Television, an Accra-based television station, is rapidly losing a number of its core production staff to a new television station, which is barely two months old.

So far, 10 workers comprising six cameramen, two producers and two sound men have left Metropolitan Television, popularly called Metro TV, for Net 2, a television station owned by Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin North.

An ace cameraman of Metro, Edmund Bediako, popularly known by his colleagues as Bishop, has told DAILY GUIDE he would soon serve notice to the management of Metro that he would be leaving for the new TV station.

Bishop, who covered President J.A Kufuor’s recent official visit to the Queen of England for both Metro and Net 2, said after critically assessing his situation, he realised that his chances might be better at the new station than where he currently was.

When pressed for his reason for leaving Metro, he stated that even though the station had helped him by giving him some exposure and experience, he still felt he had not been treated fairly on a number of occasions and in several instances.

He said although the company promised taking care of him and another colleague who were involved in an accident while travelling with Vice President Aliu Mahama last year, the promise was never fulfilled.

In addition to the unfair treatment, Bishop felt the company did not manage its human resource properly.

“I have worked for the past seven years and I think I should be treated better than this.”

Even though Net 2 is yet to start test transmission, media analysts believe it would make significant impact on the country’s media landscape.
