The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has held what it termed a "family meeting in Accra aimed at thrashing out petty differences among its members.

A meeting convened at the instance of Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of the Union, sought to bring on board other factional musicians' groups like the Ghana Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Song Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).

In an address Alhaji Buari stressed the need for the various musicians groups to forge a common front to pursue their interests.

He told the meeting that the divisions within their ranks was costing them a lot and added that some persons had taken advantage of their disunity to engage in piracy, which was affecting them financially.

He urged the various groups to forget the past and work together with MUSIGA, which was the umbrella body, especially in this Jubilee year, explaining that the continued disintegration of their front was a disincentive to progress.

Prominent musicians who attended the meeting included Rex Omar, Kojo Aquai, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Dr Sogah and Gyedu Blay Ambolley.

They all expressed their appreciation of the meeting and pledged to work together with MUSIGA to ensure that all musicians worked with a common voice.

Meanwhile MUSIGA has fixed its quadrennial congress for November 14, in the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani.

A statement from the Union said the congress would among other things elect new officers to steer its affairs for the next four years.

Positions to be contested are: President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, General Secretary and Welfare Officer.

The statement urged all qualified members to pick nomination forms at the MUSIGA Headquarters from July 1 to August 31.

The forms are expected to be submitted by September 28.
