Poetry: The Pilgrim’s song

Trials, painful trials
Besiege the pilgrim’s soul

With wobbling feet
Trembling hands
He journeys on

But not with ease
The pilgrim has no companion
His companion, truth, has been murdered
His friend, faith has been imprisoned

Alone through the journey
The pilgrim makes his way
Through dark alleys
Rocky mountains
The blistering sun

The cold nights
The bitter fears

Denied of his rights
Robbed of his freedom

Abandoned by all
Because he has believed

Believed in him who lives
Because he has known
The truth that liberates

Oh Christian Pilgrim march on
Hold on to your redeemer

For he lives
Yes he lives

And he sees you
He knows all your troubles

He is with you
He will see you through

He never fails
He never sleeps

He sees your labour of faith
He knows your trials

He knows how to reward you
He is with you

Never give up
Oh Christian pilgrim
Your journey is far
But your Lord is with you
And he will carry you through.
