Statistics from the Wenchi District Directorate of Health indicate that malaria cases in the District are on the increase.

The Health Statistician, Mustapha Adama, said in 2005, 14,610 cases were recorded, while last year it went up 21,762, representing 48% of the total O.P.D attendance.

This according to Mr. Mustapha calls for intensive public education to arrest the situation. The Health Statistician urged NGOs, CBOs and Communities to get involved in Public Sensitization Programmes.

This, he said will go a long way to reduce malaria cases. On HIV/AIDS, Mr. Mustapha said even though the prevalence rate in the District has reduced there is need for the people, to be cautious, in order not to contract the deadly disease.
