The Executive Secretary of the Civil Service Association, Mr Smart Chigabatia, has said the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme did not mean the government should not pay workers' medical bills.

Mr Chigabatia said this at the weekend at a public sector reforms forum held in Bolgatanga for both public and civil servants to throw more lights on the new public sector reforms.

He said the scheme did not cover certain diseases and therefore government could not claim to withdraw medical bills of workers.

Mr Chigabatia said the low salary structure and the poor conditions of workers, coupled with high medical bills were affecting workers and this would lower the moral of the workers to put up their best, hence lowering productivity.

He appealed to the government to consider paying bills of workers for diseases that did not fall within the NHIS.

The Chief Director of Public Sector Reforms, Mrs Rebecca Amoah Aboagye, said the major aim of the sector was to revitalize and re-energize the public sector to empower it to render qualitatively and quantitatively goods and services.

She said it was based on this that the sector was focusing on the implementation of a comprehensive public sector reforms work programme, including good working conditions, pay reforms and pension reforms.
