The Community Based Health Planning and Services compound at Brewaniase in the Nkwanta District has not been used since it was put up two years ago because it is near a cemetery.

CHPS compounds are first tier health delivery points, mainly in the rural areas, manned by Community Health Nurses with community support.

A local source told the GNA that nurses, who told scary ghost tales, have never stayed in the quarters within the compound built with funding by the Social Development Fund (SDF).

He said sick people also said they could not walk through the cemetery at night to receive treatment at the compound.

Therefore, the Nkwanta District Health Management Team has acquired a temporal operating base in the same town for the Health Officer to cater for the people in the area.

When contacted Mr George Sansu Darkey, Assemblyman for Brewaniase, confirmed the story, maintaining that the place was secluded.

He said a new CHPS compound was being built for the community through the assistance of World Vision, a non-governmental organisation.
