Seventeen traditional birth attendants (TBAs) from Asokwa sub-metro have completed a two-week training workshop at the Kumasi South Hospital at Kyirapatre.

They were educated on antenatal care, delivery, post-natal care and family planning.

Addressing the closing session Mrs Stella Enninful Eghan, Senior Nursing Officer at the hospital, cautioned them to refer cases beyond their capability to hospitals.

She said since TBAs were ambassadors in their communities, there was the need for them to propagate the message of general cleanliness, educate people on the need to space their birth as that could make both the mother and the child healthy.

Madam Faustina Osei Mensah, a Nursing Officer, appealed to men to co-operate and support their wives in planning their families.

She urged men to accompany their wives to hospitals during delivery period to motivate them to have safe birth.

The participants were presented with certificates.
