Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the out-going Chief Executive of Korle-bu Teaching Hospital has said that he has saved the nation billions of cedis during his tenure.

In a press conference on Thursday morning he said, since he became CEO of the hospital, he has been able to stop questionable procurements and bogus contracts that were costing the nation billions of cedis.

He said before he took over, the hospital was paying ¢18 billion for sutures, but he was able to source out for the same quantity of sutures from India for ¢450 million, as a result he saved the hospital and the nation over ¢17 billion.

He said the hospital used to pay ¢2.4 billion for CSSD tapes yearly but he was able to acquire CSSD tapes for far less and the hospital used the items for three years.

According to the heart surgeon, under his administration, the hospital has been able to generate funds on its own to build a new administration block at the cost of ¢8.6 billion.

The old administration he said has now been converted into the Ear, Nose and Throat Out-Patient-Department, and it is the best equipped in West Africa.

He called on Ghanaians to change their attitudes and do the right thing.

He urged all Ghanaians to dscipline themselves and asked the health authorities to discourage medical officers working in the public sector from private practice.

Meanwhile, he revealed that there are plans to set up a radio station for the hospital.
