The Bosomtwi-Atwima-Kwanwoma (BAK) District office of the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) with its headquarters at Kuntanase has since its inception registered about 75,174 people out of the District’s total population of 146,028.

Mr Felix Osei Bonsu, the District Scheme Manager, who announced
this said the coverage which represent 51% was a clear indication that people have now realised the need to register with the scheme which has come to stay for good and called on people who are still showing apathy to change their mindsets and register.

Mr Osei-Bonsu, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana
News Agency (GNA) at Kuntanase said a total of 63,763 people have been issued with cards, 52,653 of who have attended hospital with their cards, adding that 20,531 of the number registered were from the informal sector.

The Manager indicated that a total of ¢255,776.26 have been collected as premium, while (GH¢ 766,608.37) has also been paid as premium to health care providers.

Mr Osei-Bonsu cautioned people not to get sick before they rush to register since it could defeat the aims of the scheme but they should rather register when they were healthy.

Mr. Derrick Adu, an accountant of the scheme said the major problem confronting them was inadequate staff at the claims department and appealed to the government help increase the number to help expedite action on claims and vetting of documents.

He also called on the Ministry of Information to support education
on the scheme to enable many people to embrace the scheme.

Mr Adu advised card bearers to renew their cards one month before
their expiry date.
