At least 300 Ghanaian soldiers will be heading for Somalia soon, to help maintain peace in the war ravaged country.

The Ghanaian force will be part of an African Union contingent expected to fill the void left by Ethiopian soldiers, who helped the Somali interim government to oust Islamist militants.

Foreign Minister Nana Akuffo Addo disclosed this on arrival with President Kufuor from the AU Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to Nana Akuffo Addo President Kufuor, who holds the AU’s rotational presidency pledged to commit Ghanaian troops for Somalia.

Meanwhile President Kufuor has called on all Ghanaians to unite and rally to champion Africa’s development. According to him African countries on the continent hold Ghana in high esteem hence his selection to lead the continental group.
