A concerned citizen, Mr Samuel K. Asemnyinah says the National Anthem is not being given the respect it deserves and has therefore called for a return to the days when everybody stood still or at least stopped whatever was being doing when the anthem was played.
He said these days whenever the anthem was being sounded, “even at national parades, you would find people talking, laughing, walking or going about their businesses as usual without any attention to the anthem," the GNA quotes him as saying in Accra. He said the worst offenders were drivers of state protocol vehicles, who keep moving in and out of parade grounds whenever the national anthem was being played. Mr Asemnyinah appealed to school heads and teachers to teach the children to respect the anthem since the "anthem goes hand-in-hand with the flag." "Decorating our cars with the flag and other national emblems are meaningless if we do not respect our anthem. It is part of our national identity and we have to respect it whenever or wherever we hear it being played," he said. "This attitude has to change especially during this 50th anniversary celebration. Let's respect the national anthem by paying attention to it whenever it is being played."
