The Ghana Air Traffic Controllers Association (GHATCA) have denied media reports that its members were planning to strike
on March 6.

The association noted that the issues outlined in
the story lacked substance and could therefore not be the basis for any Air Traffic Controller to go on strike.

A release signed by Foster Danso, President of GHATCA, said an earlier decision to react to the publication which came out in the middle of February, 2007, was withheld because the Management of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA, responded appropriately.

"Information reaching GHATCA indicates that apprehension still exists within the public and some security agencies of the likelihood of Air Traffic Controllers going on strike on 6th March as was carried by The Moment," the release said.

It said it was in that regard that GHATCA as a professional body had decided to clear the air and protect "the good name and image of its members".

It said the relationship between GHATCA and the management of the GCAA was one of mutual respect and devoid of any suspicion, adding that people should desist from acts that could destroy such cordial relations.

It noted that as responsible citizens, GHATCA endorsed the 50th anniversary celebrations saying, "it is incumbent on us to contribute our quota to the jubilee celebrations by providing this useful service that the nation needs most."
