The Reverend Samuel Afranie Amankwaa, Kwabre District Director of Education has observed that the imposition of professional careers on school children by parents often affects the effective development of the skills, potentials and interests of the children.

He expressed concern that some children were often compelled to study subjects and pursue courses that were not within their areas of competence and interest.

Reverend Amankwaa, has therefore, advised parents and guardians to always seek advice from the schools’ guidance and counselling units before taking any decision on the future careers of their wards.

Reverend Amankwaa noted that the effective collaboration between parents and teachers would help identify the innate and unique potentials and skills of the child for proper future growth and development.

Parents, he said, had a major responsibility in the training and development of the child and advised them to invest in their education and desist from the acquisition of personal materials and other unimportant social activities.

Reverend Amankwaa, said the acquisition of academic knowledge alone without good morals, virtues and discipline was a disservice to the society and urged parents to lead lives worthy of emulation by the children.

He also advised parents to inculcate in the children the sense of patriotism, nationalism and religious norms to enable them to become assets
to the society.
