About 100 heads of decentralized government departments in the Upper West Region are attending a two-day workshop on how to effectively monitor and evaluate the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Two (GPRS11).

The workshop, which is being organized by the National Development Planning Commission (GNDPC) in collaboration with the World Bank is aimed at equipping the officers with the necessary skills to enable them competently monitor and evaluate the programme being implemented from 2006 to 2009.

The programme aims at supporting wealth creation for sustainable poverty reduction and pursuing accelerated private sector led growth, vigorous human resource development, good governance and civic responsibility.

Mr George Hikah Benson, the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, said all agencies at the regional and district levels are tasked with the responsibility of implementing the programmes and projects under GPRS 11.

He appealed to them to properly play their monitoring and evaluation role in the implementation of the districts medium term development plans which are linked to GPRS11.

Mr Benson said the monitoring and evaluation plans would ensure an effective and efficient system for tracking the progress of programmes and projects in each district.
