The Deputy Minority Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Edward Doe Adjaho has petitioned the Inspector General of Police to investigate the alleged plot to assassinate the MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu.

Mr. Adjaho is one of two Members of Parliament being linked to the alleged plot.

In a letter addressed to the IGP, Mr Adjaho said naturally he should be interested in any plot to assassinate a member of the group he leads in Parliament.

He said he was out of the country, when the Ghanaian Observer and the Gye Nyame Concord newspapers published the story. He told Joy News that he is hopeful that a police investigation will establish the veracity of the reports.

“…I have interest in the matter to make sure the matter is investigated for the truth to come out,” he said.

Mr Adjaho declined to comment on aspects of the report that linked him to the assassination plot. He said the media is not the appropriate platform to respond to such issues.

“Responding in the media can not establish the truth. The truth can only be established through an investigatory process. And that is one of the reasons why I am writing to the police,” he stated.

Mr Adjaho disclosed that he has no qualms with Haruna Iddrisu to warrant an assassination plot on his life. He said: “I am interested in the truth being established. As to whether indeed there was a plot…we just want the truth.”

He said he has not spoken to Haruna Iddrisu about the issue because “I respect his view and the position he has taken that he would not comment.”

Meanwhile, the Minority Leader of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin is calling on the executives of the NDC to issue an official statement on the alleged plot.

He said an official party position will put an end to the many speculations about the issue.

“We expect that the law enforcement agencies should take up this matter while the NDC party itself looks into it. It is a matter involving a very serious crime. We expect the national security agencies to investigate this matter thoroughly. We can’t keep on running a country based on threats and rumours,” he said.
