The Chairman of the Wa Secondary School Parent/Teachers Association (PTA) Mr. Omar Ibn Mohammed has asked parents to allow school authorities to discipline their wards when they go wrong without any undue interference.

He observed that the inability of school authorities to discipline their students had come about because of the attitude of some parents to condone their wards bad behaviour.

"This behaviour ferment indiscipline among students and also frustrates school authorities thereby resulting in poor academic performance. Parents must first discipline their wards to help sustain discipline in the schools", he explained.

Mr. Mohammed made the observation at the "Speech and Prize Giving Day" celebration of the Wa Secondary School in Wa at the weekend, which was on the theme: "Achieving academic and moral excellence in Wa Secondary School - The way forward".

He appealed to parents to cooperate with heads of schools and their staff to promote discipline and sound academic work in second cycle institutions, saying: "The act of hooliganism in some of our tertiary institutions can best be traced to the breakdown of discipline in the second cycle institutions."
