The government through the National Governance Programme (NGP) has handed over 62 vehicles to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to enable it to reach remote parts of the country.

The vehicles worth ¢25 billion include, 40 Nissan Pick Ups, 19 Nissan Patrols, two Cinema Vans (yet to arrive), one Toyota Saloon Car and 40 Motor Bikes.

The vehicles would be distributed to 40 out of the 138 Districts. This means 98 more vehicles are required particularly as the nature of work involves constant movement from one community to another.

Presenting the keys of the vehicle to the Commission, Mrs. Leonora Kyeremanteng, NGP Co-ordinator lauded the collaborative mechanism between the two institution and their developing partners, which according to her had brought substantive benefits to NCCE.

Benefits to NCCE were in the form of the provision of equipment and capacity building for staff of the Commission throughout the country.

Mrs. Kyeremanteng however expressed concern about critical outstanding need of the commission which included a permanent headquarters.

The Commission continues to share few rooms at the offices of the Electoral Commission.

The NGP Co-ordinator assured the NCCE that her outfit would intensify its advocacy with government to ensure that a permanent office was allocated to the Commission.

"We are happy to see that NCCE is now finally slowly but surely being empowered as a key governance institution that must convert our constitution into Constitutionalism," Mrs Kyeremanteng stated.

Mrs Akosua Akumanyi, NCCE Deputy Chairperson who received the keys on behalf the Commission used the occasion to urged Ghanaians to take active interest in the public education processes leading to the re-denomination.

Among those present at the handing over ceremony were Mr. Larry Bimi, NCCE Chairman, other Commissioners, Directors and staff of the Commission.
