Two police officers of the Regional Response Unit of the Upper West Regional Command have been interdicted for negligently causing the death of a motor cycle rider and injuring a pillion passenger.

They are Constable Awudu Iddrisu and Ernest Akatiga.

Six other officers who were on duty with the two other men that day are to face service enquiry.

They are Lance Corporal Millicent Amoah, Constables Alex Wankolhmes, Patrick Tetteh, Daniel Kyei Mensah, Hannah Kwah and Marvis Boakye Darkwa.

The action follows a committee of enquiry report by the Police Regional Coordinating Council that investigate the motor accident.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Robert Ayalingo said the directive was contained in a letter signed by the IGP, Patrick Acheampong.

He said this at the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week celebration.

It was under the theme: ‘Making the roads safer for the young ones’ and was attended by members of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, school children and their teachers and the general public, among others.

According to Mr Ayalingo, the Regional Criminal Investigations Department has also been directed to prepare a case docket and submit it to the Attorney General’s Department for study and advice.

Touching on road safety, he said statistics show that 23 percent of pedestrian fatalities involved children below the age of 16 and urged parents and teachers to teach their children the rules of road crossing and the traffic light signals to help reduce accidents.
