The Nsawam circuit court on Thursday fined a driver an amount of 60 million cedis or in default two years imprisonment for careless and inconsiderate driving.

Nana Kwame Poku, 27, the driver, pleaded guilty to both counts of negligently causing harm and inconsiderate driving.

Prosecuting, Inspector Alex Cosmos said on February 2, 2005 at about 1445 hours, the convict was driving a Tata truck with registration number GW5012P loaded with 150 bags of wheat from Accra to Adoagyiri.

On reaching a section of the road at Kotoku Junction, near Nsawam, a tipper truck ahead of the accused vehicle slowed down and indicated his intensions of turning to the left.

The accused ignored the tipper truck and decided to overtake on the right side of the truck.

In the process one of its wheels landed in a gutter nearby causing him to lose control of the vehicle and knocking down two women, namely Mary Kardefor and Judith Owusuaa Danquah both aged 29 years.

Judith died on the spot while Mary got injured and was treated and discharged.
