Prosecutors in the United States of America have confirmed that they have declared the New Patriotic Party MP for Upper-Denkyira wanted for allegedly stealing over one million dollars from a Brooklyn-based limousine company.

An official indictment is expected to be filed soon for his extradition to the US to face criminal charges there. The New York County District Attorney’s Office told Joy News, US Department of Justice has indicted Mr Augustine Asiedu also known as Nana Amoako.

Spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, Jennifer Kushner who confirmed the story told Joy News a release was issued on Thursday announcing the indictment of the MP and three others.

A copy of the indictment cited by Joy News said the four suspects defrauded a limousine company called Fone-A-Car and its lenders, Rosenthal and Rosenthal Incorporated and All Points Capital Corporation.

According to the prosecutors, further investigations show that Nana Amoako used his share of the booty to finance his campaign to become MP for Upper-Denkyira in Ghana.

The MP admitted working for the company for 15 years but denied the stealing charges.

“I will tell them ok that it is not true. Period,” he said.

A call by Joy News to the New York County District Attorney’s office One Hogan Place revealed that the case of the Upper-Denkyira East MP, had been presented to the grand jury for indictment charges spanning 2002 to 2005.

The spokesperson of DA’s office, Jennifer Kushner maintains the NPP MP is a wanted man.

“Everything in the press release is accurate…We are going to file an extradition request through the Department of Justice,” she disclosed.

According to the indictment charges, Nana Amoakoh, who was the Brooklyn-based limousine company, Fone-A-Car’s President, was then called Augustine Asiedu. The charge said the MP and the company’s chief financial officer, Nick Zarbhanelian, stole over one million dollars from the company.

The indictment charge continued that the MP used the money to finance his political campaign here in Ghana to become the MP for Upper-Denkyira.

Mr. Amoakoh and Zarbhanelian are alleged to have initially stolen cheques for approximately $700,000 written by Manhattan clients for limousine services rendered by the company. The MP and his accomplice allegedly deposited the cheques into unauthorized Fone-A-Car business chequeing accounts they established at several banks. Then, they transferred the money into their personal accounts.

The Upper-Denkyira East MP allegedly wired a significant amount of the stolen money to his accounts in Ghana. The indictment said in addition to stealing from Fone-A-Car, the MP’s accomplice is charged with stealing over $300,000 from the Manhattan asset-based lending company Rosenthal & Rosenthal, Inc.

To prevent Fone-A-Car from going bankrupt because of the alleged fraud Mr. Amoakoh and his accomplice connived with Rosenthal in 2004 to provide cash advances against the company’s receivables.

Zarbhanelian provided Rosenthal with fraudulent invoices representing limousine services worth hundreds of thousands of dollars he claimed Fone-A-Car had provided to employees of Tyco, CIBC and MetLife all different companies in the Manhattan district. The indictment said Fone-A-Car had never provided the rides, and was not due any payments.

Based on the fraudulent invoices, Rosenthal advanced money to Fone-A-Car, which kept the car service in business and allowed the MP and Zarbhanelian to continue their looting. It further stated that over several years the MP wrote cheques payable to “cash” from a Fone-A-Car account totaling over $30,000 that were deposited in the personal account of his girlfriend Sebastiana Paul.

Meanwhile the MP's accomplice Nick Zarbhanelian has been arraigned before New York county court.
