Multimedia Broadcasting Company Limited has presented a desktop computer to the National Media Commission (NMC) to enhance the effectiveness of the Commission’s work.

The computer was presented in response to a specific emergency request made by the Commission through the media.

Presenting the computer, Mr. Charles van Dyck, Business and Development Manager of Multimedia Company Limited said in recognition of the work done by the Commission, the company decided to help when the need for a computer was made public in the media.

"It is disheartening to hear that such an institution lacks such an important and basic working item in its office and to go public with it," he added.

Mr. van Dyck asked the Commission to call on the Media for support, as others were ready to support with the necessary working materials needed to achieve its vision.

Mr. Paul Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the Commission received the computer and expressed his gratitude to the donors. He said it was the biggest endorsement from the constituency they serve as it reassured the Commission of its relevance.

He said corporate engagement by the media on issues involving development would always yield positive results for the nation. He added: "This is why we can call on the people of Ghana to support our efforts towards the development of a free, independent, responsible and pluralistic media as mandated under the 1992 Constitution".

Mr. Adu gave the assurance that employees of the Commission who were not computer literate would be educated with the help of the system in order to enhance effectiveness of work.

Mr. George Sarpong, Executive Secretary of the Commission called for assistance to renovate the office building of the Commission, which was in a deplorable state.
