The Ashanti Region leads in robbery cases with 130 out of 234 cases recorded nationwide between April and June 11 this year.

This represents 55.5 per cent of the total figures. Greater Accra follows with 67 cases representing 28.6 per cent while Upper West and Volta regions recorded none.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), K.K Manfo confronted senior police officers in the Ashanti region with these statistics at an emergency meeting in Kumasi to startegise on ways curbing the spiraling crime wave especially robbery.

Dr Manfo told the 54 officers that he was worried about the situation and charged them to brace themselves to fight the criminals by responding quickly to reported criminal attacks.

He called on the officers to be proactive in dealing especially with robbery cases stressing, “Do not wait for crimes to be committed before you find solutions”.

Dr Manfo advised officers not to delegate too often in the discharge of their duties but if they had to, they should exercise strict supervision subordinates.

He said the officers should visit check points regularly to make sure personnel did not vacate their post.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Frank Adu stressed the command’s readiness to brave the odds to arrest the crime situation in the region.
