The Commissioner of the Value Added Tax, Anthony Mintah has asked businesses not to entice VAT officials with money when they go round on inspection duty, according to an Accra based radio station report.

Businesses should also report any attempt by VAT officers to extort money from them.

Mr Mintah said this on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Madina sub- office of the VAT Service. The sub-office is expected to take care of businesses in Madina, Adenta, Ashaley Botwe and surrounding communities.

Mr Mintah said the service is determined to make payment of taxes easier and less cumbersome to businesses hence the opening of offices.

The service is also introducing the VAT Flat Rate Scheme to make it easier for retailers to file their returns.

Paul Asimenu, Director of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning acknowledged the challenges businesses are faced with due to the energy crisis.
