The two British juvenile girls arrested at the Kotoka International Airport with drugs suspected to be cocaine have been formally charged.

The two appeared at the juvenile court in Accra on Thursday to face charges of illegal possession of narcotic substances and attempted exportation banned substances.

Details of the brief, in-camera hearing, including the girls’ pleas, were not disclosed.

However an apparently angry press photographers stormed the court premises to train their lenses for shots of the two girls, both 16 years old.

Earlier publications of the identities, including photographs of the accused girls elicited reprimands, with some interests threatening to sue the media for exposing the minors.

It is unclear what prompted Thursday siege.
