A fifty-year-old woman, who allegedly murdered her friend whom she suspected to have given another woman to her husband, has been arrested by the Akwatia police in the Eastern Region.

The suspect, Comfort Ntiamoah, an Accra-based trader, was said to have hit the head of the deceased, Madam Akua Ampofowaa, a farmer at Akyem Takyiman in the Kwaebibirem District, during a fight, resulting in her sudden death.

According to the Akwatia District Police Commander, DSP Desmond O. Boampong, Comfort married her 71-year-old UK-based husband, Mr Owusu Mari, about three years ago.

He said Mr Afari, who had lived in the UK for more than 20 years, where he lost his first wife, returned to Ghana for good this year and decided to reside in their hometown, Akyem. Takyiman.

DSP Boampong said Comfort turned down the request of her husband to settle with him at Takyiman with the excuse that her trading business would collapse if she left Accra, but reached an agreement with him that she would visit him every weekend.

He said upon a tip-off that Mr Mari was flirting with another woman at Takyiman, Comfort travelled from Accra to the town on Friday, August 17 this year to see things for herself.

DSP Boampong stated that when Comfort realised that Mr Mari was not at home when she reached Takyiman, she kept her personal belongings in her bedroom and went out looking for the husband.

He said while combing the town for her husband, the suspect came across Madam Ampofowaa, who allegedly courted another woman for Mr Mari, and confronted her with the allegation, which she vehemently denied any knowledge of.

The District Commander stated that the accusation and denial resulted in a heated argument so both women decided to go to Mr Mari's house to confront him on the allegation while trading insults on the way.

He said when they reached Mr Mari's house around 9 p.m, there was nobody else in the house but only Mr Mari, who was drunk and fast asleep.

DSP Boampong said that in a fight that ensued between the two women, Comfort allegedly hit Mad. Ampofowaa's head with an object that dazed her and she fell on the ground and bled profusely.

He said the suspect, who sensed danger, rushed to her house to inform her brother about the incident.

The Police Commander said when the brother and others rushed to the scene, they found Mad. Ampofowaa unconscious and rushed her to the Tachiman Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Asamankese Regional Hospital for autopsy.
