A drinking bar attendant at Kuntunase, near Pokuase has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly selling to the public akpeteshie, a local alcoholic beverage laced with Indian hemp.

Nyarkoa Aboagye whose plea was not taken is charged with possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

But her counsel, Mr. Osman Dogo alleged that it was a set up because his client had turned a proposal from a man who had planted Indian hemp at the bar.

According to Mr Dogo as soon the alleged drugs were planted at the bar the man alerted the police to arrest Nyarkoa.

Mr Dogo therefore prayed the court to admit her client to bail because she was innocent but the court turned down the bail application and ordered the Police to send the exhibit to the Police Forensic laboratory for examination.

The accused is expected to reappear on September 10.

Police Chief Inspector Majore Otabil told the court that on August 18, this year, at about 0930 hours, the Police had information that a bar operator at Kuntunase, near Pokuase was selling akpeteshie soaked with Indian hemp to the public.

Chief Inspector Otabil said when the bar was searched, a large container containing Akpeteshie soaked with Indian hemp was found concealed under another large container.

Prosecution said the sample was yet to be sent to Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
