Six people, including a 48-year-old man said to be the chief of Ankwah Dobolo, in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region, have been arrested in connection with an armed attack on a driver at Adjeiman, near Amasaman.

Police at Amasaman arrested five of the men who allegedly attacked and wounded Ibrahim Martey, 41, and bolted with his ¢5 million on July 12.

The chief, Nana Affum, alias Joe Tapolin, was arrested on August 23 after police searched his room and found two pump action guns, a single barreled gun, a pis¬tol and 26 cartridges.

The five; William Okyere, alias Pakadan, 25, Mustapha Kwame, alias Adjetey 56, Nii Dodoo, alias Tawiah 27, Isaac Odartey alias Dodoo 25, and Daniel Ayitey alias Sarpong, 46, who wore masks and wielded guns, riddled Mr Martey's KIA Sportage vehicle with bullets, wounding the driver in the process.

They rushed on him and attempted to take the car away. However, due to the driver's shouts for help, they grabbed the money and fled, according to police.

Speaking to the Times on Monday, District Crime Officer Emmanuel Osei said police investigations led to the arrest of Mustapha, said to be brother of the car owner, who mentioned the other four as his accomplices.

It was also found out that the five buried the weapons they used in the attack at Kotoku. Mustapha led the police to where the weapons were hidden and they recovered one locally-made gun, a pistol and 21 cartridges. Following information provided by the five men, the police proceeded to search Nana Affum's room and found more weapons.

ASP Osei said Nana Affum produced a licence covering the weapons found on him, and was granted bail pending further investigations.

He said the weapons have been forwarded for forensic examination to check whether they were recently used.

The other five have been remanded in prison custody to appear before the Amasaman District Magistrate court on September 10.

They are charged with causing damage, conspiracy to commit robbery and possessing firearms without authority when they appeared before the court on July 18.
