Fourteen communities in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District will be connected to the national electricity grid by the end of this year.

Contracts for the project had already been awarded and work started.

Mr Kingsley Adjei-Manu, the District Chief Executive made this known at the third ordinary meeting of the assembly at Bibiani.

He mentioned the beneficiary communities as Kwamekrom, Adukrom, Adupri, Surano, Anyinase, Merewa and Akaasu.

The rest are Fahiakobo, Kyine, Besiekrom, Dominibo Number One, Ntakam, Nkronua and Muoho.

Mr Adjei-Manu said contracts had also been awarded for work to begin on Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) at Ampemkrom, Donkokrom, Dansokrom, Bankomisa, Kojina, Basengele, Ewiahyiren, Maase, Songoli, Buabenso and Sebrekrom.

The DCE said contract had also been signed for work to begin on the Awaso and Chirano Small Town Water Project under the European Union (EU) and the Department for International Development (DFID) funding.

He said with the support from Alcan and SNV mining companies’ social sustainable initiative, Awaso, Subri and Atonsu which are within the company’s catchment areas would benefit from a 12-seater KVIP and three classroom nursery school project each.

Mr. Adjei-Manu announced that the government had allocated 20,000 energy saving bulbs to be distributed to communities with electricity supply.

Mr. Christopher Addae, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, said he had voted 250 million cedis from his share of the MP’s common fund to support the provision of potable water and electrification projects in the area.

He appealed to the people to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and invest in their children’s education.
