The 10th edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games has been given a financial boost by Bahmed Travel and Tours, one of the leading travel agencies in the country.

The company on Monday presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 (¢50,000,000) to the Ghana Armed Forces, the hosts of this year’s event, in aid of preparations towards the games.

The Games are slated for October 19-26.

Alhaji Ahmed Bandoh, Chief Executive of Bahmed Travel and Tours said the SESSA Games had become a very significant event on the national sports calendar due to its role in the development of sports hence the need to support it.

According to Alhaji Bandoh, SESSA Games, which had over the years produced some of the great sporting talents in the country deserved the support of the corporate world adding that his donation should open the doors for other companies to lend their support to the event.

He was confident this year’s event would again unearth more talents for the nation.

Alhaji Bahmed commended the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for winning the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Under-17 World Cup in Korea.

He said the success of the team gave credence to the fact that West Africa remained a powerful force on the continent and the world as a whole.

Alhaji Bandoh also commended the Black Starlets for reaching the semi-final stage of the competition and urged the Black Queens who begin their campaign at the Women’s World Cup in China on Wednesday to follow the footsteps of the Starlets and the Eaglets.

Lieutenant Colonel John H. K. Buntuguh, Secretary to the Planning Committee of the 2007 SESSA Games, expressed appreciation to Bahmed for supporting the event and called on other companies to follow suit.

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Customs Exercise and Preventive
Services (CEPS), Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Ghana Police
Service and the Ghana Prison Service will compete for honours in over
five sporting disciplines.

Among them are football, tug-of-war, boxing, hockey, basketball,
table tennis, volleyball and athletics.
