The family of Augustus Korsi Borke, a 43-year-old driver at Hohoe, who allegedly died prematurely, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to cause investigation into the circumstances leading to his untimely death.

According to the family members, the Hohoe Police were forcing them to agree that the death of the deceased was natural so the body that had been deposited at the morgue of the Hohoe District Hospital should be released to them for burial.

Making the appeal through the Daily Graphic at Hohoe, Mr Emmanuel Borke, the Head of the deceased's family, said on July 12, this year, the deceased, who was plying Hohoe-Ayoma road in the Jasikan District with a Volvo vehicle with registration number GR 1620 Q, never returned home.

He said when they heard of his death, they went to the Gbi-Bla Police Station, where it was alleged that Borke's body had been deposited at the morgue.

Mr Borke said on Monday, July 16, this year, when they went to the police station again, Detective Inspector Dwomor, who was in charge of the case, told them that two suspects had been arrested and were in custody.

He gave the name of one of them as Prosper Acolatse, the owner of the vehicle and the former driver whom he refused to name.

Mr Borke said when they went back to the police station on July 30, this year, Inspector Dwomor invited the family to the office of the Hohoe District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Daniel Abloddey, where he asked the family to agree that Borke's death was natural.

He said when the family refused to their request, Inspector Dwomor became highly infuriated and in the presence of his commander said, "You can take the case to Jericho, I do not care".

According to Mr Borke, Inspector Dwomor said he was only trying to assist them since they did not have money to take the body to Accra, neither could the police finance the post-mortem examination the family was demanding.

He said at the moment, the family was taking legal action at the Hohoe District Magistrate's Court presided over by Her Worship Janet Bakudie.

Mr Borke claimed that the family was suspicious of foul play since the deceased was found dead between two seats of his vehicle.
